Global Employee Health and Fitness Month

Global employee health and fitness month is observed every May. The mission of this initiative is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to employers and their employees through workforce promotion activities as well as providing a healthy environment.

Physical and mental health conditions are directly linked to lost productivity at work. In the United States the average adult spends one third of their day on the job (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023). Therefore, employers are in a unique position to promote health with their employees in the workplace.

Benefits of Exercise

A few of the known benefits of exercise include:

Improved sleep
Prevents weight gain
Boosts immune system
Decreases stress
Improves attention span (Gow et. Al, 2010).

Studies have shown that students and employees who exercise are more productive, have less stress, have better memories, are better problem solvers and have higher energy levels (National Today, 2023).
